This weekend we went to Darlington, SC for the Southern 500. We got the tickets for free through an organization called VetTix, about which I can’t say enough good things. We decided to spend the night after the race, but there aren’t many hotel rooms to be had in the area the night of that race. So I had a crazy idea to stay at South of The Border.
Anyone of my era who grew up on the East Coast and drove up and down I-95 in the 60’s or 70’s remembers South of the Border:

The race got rain delayed. We went back to the “Motor Hotel” and watched it when it resumed at almost 10 PM. The room was very dated, but clean, and BIG! They are also pet-friendly. We had fun, anyway. Darlington is iconic, and so is South of the Border.
