B is for Boone (Daniel, that is.)

There’s a place in Hillsborough, North Carolina, a little to the east of us that we just call Daniel Boone.  Unbeknownst to me until a few minutes ago, it used to be a theme park in the 50’s:   Daniel Boone Railroad

Yesterday, on the way home from work, I decided I needed a jadeite mixing bowl to go with the brand-new Kitchenaid mixer my kids bought me for Christmas.  I knew exactly where to go because there is a cute little store named The Cottage that has one whole area stacked with (usually way-overpriced) jadeite pieces.  I could spend at least an hour in that place every other time I visit, but today I was on a mission.

I knew the property had been sold, but I didn’t know how quickly shops were shutting down.  When I got to the store, there was a sign stating that they were closing forever on March 4, 2019.

I bought my mixing bowl (at a discount) and promised to come back for more before they close.

Leaving the center, I called my husband and told him the sad news.  He quickly said, “Are you still there?  Did you take pictures? You know it won’t be there very much longer.”

I made a u-turn.

Here’s the result.  I like to call it “As the Sun Sets on Daniel Boone.”

  1. How awesome…thank you for the pictures.
It’s been there almost as long as I’ve been around.
It has been a great landmark in time…so sad someone doesn’t buy it and restore it.
